Embrace Feldenkrais to Re-train Your Brain

November 1, 2016

Why did I write my book? Or more to the point why should you read "Wake Up Your Body and Brain"?

I wanted to give you the opportunity to experience of the effects of neuroplasticity and feel the measurable changes that occur when you access the brain’s way of learning.  Another more personal reason is that writing a book was on my bucket list.

Early on in my Feldenkrais® practice I realized in order for people to maintain the changes they feel at the end of a hands-on session they need to practice at home. To this end I began collecting Awareness Through Movement® lessons that could be done easily in a short space of time and would demonstrate the capacity of the brain to improve movements we use daily. As my collection of lessons grew I noticed there were some that gave consistently positive changes. These are the lessons I share with you in "Wake Up Your Body and Brain".

Are the changes lasting and/or permanent?

The answer is more complicated than a yes or no answer affords. Learning of any kind requires two major components:

* experiencing new possibilities and

* integrating those possibilities into one’s life.

My book Wake Up Your Body and Brain creates the format for new possibilities, but the integration is something that requires commitment and takes place over time. The lessons in the book provide suggestions and recommendations to help you with that integration. How long it takes will be strongly influenced by how you notice and utilize those changes in the rest of your daily life.

Embrace Feldenkrais as part of your daily routine

Wake Up Your Body and Brain is not meant as a “cure all”. It is a place to start a process for physical and mental improvement and give you a taste of what’s possible. It’s now your job to pursue this work and embrace it as part of your daily routine. The Feldenkrais lexicon contains thousands of Awareness Through Movement® lessons addressing every conceivable aspect of movement and improvement. Many of these lessons are available via the internet as on-line classes or prerecorded audio and video lessons. I invite you to explore and experience the possibilities. You will be glad you did!
