Moving Right Along

'tis the season to share tips on how to keep your body 'moving right along'. Our first tip is quite appropriate for this season; it's about lifting.
 

  • Position your body close to item and directly in front of it
  • Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart
  • Tighten your stomach muscles to help support the back
  • Bend both at the hips and knees and squat close to the item
  • Take hold of the item and bring it close to your body
  • Keep your stomach muscles tight
  • Do not twist or turn your body while lifting
  • Lift using the leg muscles, keeping the spine straight
  • Take your time
  • Do not carry items above the waist.
  • When carrying the item, keep your knees slightly bent, take small steps, and use your feet to change direction
  • Repeat in reverse to set that heavy item/gift down

 
Please note this practice is not needed when carrying small boxes like jewellery and chocolates.
